The Bronze Dragon from the Ca' Pesaro Museum of Oriental Art in Venice
Suzuki Masayoshi « Bronze Dragon »
Statue - Bronze (250 x 135 x 82cm)
XIXth century - Japan
At the base of the statue a large dragon rises up, opening its mouth upwards and causes a powerful jet of water to spurt between its jaws.
This continuously bubbling jet of water supports a large urn decorated with a mountainous landscape with a river at the edge of which grows a large tree whose branches form a canopy over the water.
Near the tree, a peacock parades by spreading its wings in front of its female.
The wings of the urn are made up of two long dragons with their mouths open upwards.
On the lid of the urn, the dominant figure of an eagle with its wings spread protecting its little eaglets.
