Great Britain “Dancing Before the Moon” Venice International Architecture Biennale
“There is a reason, after all, that some people want to colonize the moon while others dance in front of it like an old friend.”
James Baldwin
The “Dancing Before the Moon” exhibition features the creations of six designers and artists: Jayden Ali “Thunder and Simsek”, Sandra Poulson “Sabao Azul e Agua”, Mac Collins “Runout”, Shawanda Corbett, “A healing is Coming”, Madhav Kidao, “Bardo” and Yussef Agbo-Ola, “Muluku: 6 Bone Temple.”
“The British Pavilion at the 2023 Architettura Biennale celebrates what the creation and occupation of space mean for people.
Through the lens of the South Asian, African, and Caribbean diasporas in Britain, Dancing Before the Moon explores how rituals have the potential to adapt and challenge the built environment uniquely.
Social and temporal practices are defended here to strengthen attachment to the land, transform space, and link communities.”
Jayden Ali, Joseph Henry, Meneesha Kellay, and Sumitra Upham, curators of the exhibition.
